“U bílé růže
House of the White rose

Dolní náměstí 7, Olomouc

Galerie G is located on 1st floor of ancient burghers residence named „U bílé růže“ (The House of the White Rose), which is situated on the attractive walkway between the most significant historical town squares named „Horní náměstí“ and „Dolní náměstí“ („Upper“ and „Lower“ square are mentioned still in medieval chronicles as Forum superior and Forum inferior). The history of this building, actually covered by a façade in rococo style, has its roots in the medieval urbanization. Inside the building in the entry tract on ground floor or on the 1st floor we can find several post gothic and renaissance architectonical elements, ribbed and cross vaults, portals and others. From renaissance period also comes the polychrome wooden ceiling of the entry room of Galerie G. This, together with another ornamental polychrome ceiling from the main saloon, gives to exposition spaces an exceptional and unrepeatable atmosphere. During the years 1966 - 1993 this institution was called „Kabinet Grafiky“ (Cabinet of Graphic) and it worked like an important component of the Museum of Arts of Olomouc. Since 1993, the Union of Visual Artists of Olomouc builds up its activities in this gallery. After the reconstruction (1995 - 1998), with an important enlargement of exposition spaces, the new-named “Galerie G” became - especially in esthetical and technical sense - one of the most attractive in whole Moravia.
